Mayor Evans Criticizes Opponent for Use of Personnel Files

Mayor Scott Evans today released this statement in response to Domenic Cappella’s use of documents from the personnel and medical files of public employees:

“Mr. Cappella’s decision to take information from personnel files and use it at Tuesday night’s candidates’ forum is a clear indication that he believes he is above the law,” Mayor Evans said.

“Coincidentally, his callous, careless use of personnel and medical information followed his insulting remarks on Monday that I’m ‘dumb.’ I’m smart enough to know that an employee’s personnel and medical records should remain private. I’m smart enough to know that the law applies to me, too.

“Mr. Cappella’s decision to use the information raises important questions. How did he get it? Did he steal it? Has he stolen information about other city employees?

“My opponents in this race want to engage in a character debate, but one has raised taxes, owes the city $850,000 and broke a federal law. The other is a disgruntled employee with an axe to grind – and now his use of personnel and medical records further calls his judgment into question.

“I am in this race because I believe in public service. I am in this race because I believe this city and its citizens can and should be safer and more secure. I am in this race because I can make a difference. Atlantic City deserves better.

“I have protected this city as a fire fighter for 21 years, and I’m running for mayor because I want to continue to serve this city. My career and my campaign are based on public service and public safety – on restoring integrity and trust in City Hall,” the mayor said.

  1. Stupid move on Cappella’s part, and good ammo for Evans, but Cappella’s still the best of the three for low tolerance for waste and shady dealing. The fact that the hyper-corrupt, hopelessly inept council doesn’t like cappella proves he’s the best for the job and would really shake things up. He may cause the change back to comissioner form of city govt. Stranger things have happened. Evans job offers, spending, jobs for friends to get absentee ballots, and Langford’s outright theft and self-serve cafeteria govt. makes the case for Cappella.
With Obama running in Nov., we have to just hope that Langford doesn’t win the primary, or it’ll be more tragedy/comedy for the Queen of resorts.

  2. I think Langford will win. Cappella and Evans will split the white/Callaway vote so Langford will be the one left standing. Then how much will Evans trash the city in his remaining 6 months in office? And does Polillo or McQueen have a chance in November? Either one HAS to be better than any of the three Dems. But remember, it’s only one year until the NEXT mayoral election! What fun!

  3. This election gives us 3 candidates with credentials that include experiance. Yes Mayor Evans was a firefighter. God bless him for his service to this city. Yet he was put in office by the DC of AC. Most of these members are part of team Calloway. He was not elected by the people of Atlantic City. Mr. Cappella is a clear sneak becoming “Mayor for a day” by the letter written by former mayor Levy. I think he will lead the city into a dark time. Former Mayor Langford sued the city which he formally ran. I believe he is the only candidate that knows what he is doing. I encourage to support Lorenzo this election cycle. He is the only candidate that was elected BY THE PEOPLE!!

  4. It looks like Cappella didn’t have any confidential documents, and he says he was bluffing. The Evans supporter outted at the debate told of his health problems in detail over the radio many times, and nothing private was revealed. The troubling aspect of the whole thing now is the obvious situation that Evans has hired people on city time and money whose dutys are to gather up absentee ballots for Evans benefit. This should be looked into closely, but will also probably be ignored and will go away, while the taxpayers pay the tab. More sad corruption in everybodys face.

  5. it’s funny how the three posts other than from dave202 sound like campaign adds for the candidates. All three are horrible choices. I think all Polillo and McQueen have to do is do some good campaigning to let people know there are other choices. Oh yeah and audio/video record every minute of it to capture the antics that unravel after the winner of the primary is known. Break out the Bullhorns! Interesting scenario: Langford wins primary, calloways/evans and crew back polillo or mcqueen just so langford doesn’t win? Chaos! Remember folks when you vote in June, choose the write-in, “None of the Above”. Paid for by None of the Above for Mayor.

  6. its not one year, its seven months. evans is not a person to be running the city that has the most impact for all of atlantic county’s residents. he’s a fireman who put in for o.t. while attending school board meetings. he absolutly has the crook calloway brothers & there punk enforcer floyd Talley working for him. he’s also backed by by George Georges-a Greek buisness man ,the brother of the owner of minos bakery. Mr. Georges was caught smuggleing over 250,000 dollars out of the u.s. by customs. MOBSTER– on the corner of n. carolina ave/atlantic ave there is a sign for the greek festival & a sign for evans. check it out the sign & the property is owned by georges. watch what happens. Georges has a sheriff’s officer working for him, who is a close friend of Sheriff James Mcgettigan. check it out. you will see im 100% correct. by the way. lanford doesnt have the black vote secured. smart african americans know he is a hoodlem, and there voting for the only honest candidate- Domenic Cappella.

  7. Interesting, Rob, but then you blow your credibility by saying Cappella is “honest.”….
