Boardwalk Cats

No, this is not a nick name for Atlantic City ladies.   There are a group of stray cats that live under Atlantic City’s Boardwalk.   Those cats are the subject of a post from Gato Grove.   The following pictures look like they are taken from the Texas Avenue pavillion and lifeguard station.

  1. Stumbled on this by accident…nice to see my pic in your blog!!! I am an avid supporter of Alley Cat Allies, and visit the AC kitties every couple of months!

  2. I think this was from the storage shed at KY ave, toward Indiana. This is where the legendary “3 Leg” was found for years. The cats are cute, but, paradoxically are suffering with illness, uncertainty of feeding, could be seen as vermin. Although I have a cat and love the cats, it’s my belief that they should be rounded up and the free roaming of cats should end. The people who feed and care for these cats actually do them more harm than good. They also add to the feeling of chaos on that boardwalk. Does anybody walk by these cats and not feel sorry for them? More than the bums?

  3. As far as i know, any cats that are showing signs of illness are picked up and taken care of. Some of the people that work for the shelter have been doing this for years, and are quite dedicated. I half agree with the idea of them being rounded up…if they had a place to go. I did read about an entrepreneur that has a huge complex, that alotted an area in his building, for some of these cats. Not sure where, but i believe somewhere in Jersey. Its truly a shame that people dont spay and neuter their animals, and see them as disposable when they dont have time for them. I have been doing animal rescue for over 25 years…but have re-homed nearly every cat we have come in contact with…not an easy feat. It is VERY hard for me not to want to tuck a cat or two under my arm to bring home….at least these animals are spayed/neutered , eartipped and have their shots…i do, however, feel bad about them enduring the cold weather even though there are shelters that have been built under the boards. I donate alot of money to Alley Cat Allies, the ASPCA and the Humane Society on a monthly basis to try to help out…these people that are out their feeding in all weather do not get paid a cent…theyre the real heroes
