Atlantic City Accepting Proposals for Boardwalk Holocaust Memorial

Atlantic City Boardwalk Holocaust Memorial Inc. is accepting proposals for a memorial design through 15 March, 2010.   Jacqueline L. Urgo of The Philadelphia Inquirer explains:

The group’s Web site (www.acbhm.org) advises applicants that “the requirements for the memorial and how it occupies the site are as unconstrained as possible.”

Participants “are encouraged to contemplate the meaning of the Holocaust and genocide in our lives today and to invent a fitting design for this time and this place.”

A portion of the Boardwalk between New York and Kentucky Avenues was donated for this project by Atlantic City’s Council this past Summer.

About Jesse O. Kurtz

I am committed to fulfilling the promise of Atlantic City. The town would benefit from greater political participation by average citizens. Hopefully, some of the posts herein will encourage you to get more involved in your community. This blog will also feature other topics and subjects beyond Atlantic City. I hope that you will come to love Atlantic City as much, or more than I do.

  1. Sorry, I think this is a dopey idea. You’re in AC and want to enjoy yourself. A reminder of the Holocaust? OK, I can understand the Korean War, but the Holocaust? Maybe in Margate, but not in AC.
